Each year, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) updates market share information indicating the degree of market concentration in lines of business and it identifies leading insurance writers in several categories. Most categories are familiar ones — personal auto, commercial auto, workers' compensation, medical professional liability and homeowners — but then there is the catch-all of "other liability." As defined by the Insurance Information Institute, "other liability" includes coverages protecting against legal liability resulting from negligence, carelessness or failure to act that causes property damage or personal injury to others. It also includes errors and omissions, umbrella liability and liquor liability.
