University of Wisconsin-Madison wins 2018 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge

The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UWM) student team was announced as the winners of the 2018 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management challenge.

Meet the team
The team, comprised of four risk management students, competed against 26 other universities and delivered the winning presentation in front of industry leaders at RIMS 2018 Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio. The student team consisted of Becky Cacioppo, Taryn Otto, Cassandra Ring and Cameron Rowe; Carl Berlett served as an academic advisor.
“As business risks continue to evolve and become more complex, organizations will lean on the next generation of risk professionals to support growth, innovation and sustainability endeavors,” said RIMS CEO Mary Roth in a statement. “The students who participate in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge prove that the future is bright for the profession, demonstrating a remarkable grasp of both fundamental and nuanced risk management practices. Don’t forget the runner-ups
Second place in this year’s Challenge was Saint Joseph’s University (Philadelphia) and the third place team was Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). The first place university received $4000, second $3,000 and third $2,000.
The challenge began with 26 universities, eight months ago, who were each presented with a risk management case-study, provided by the Sage Foundation.
