Cats are a relatively low-maintenance pet, but any cat owner will tell you that complications do arise. Just like their human counterparts, cats need routine medical attention. Visits alone can be costly, and the costs for some treatments can put a dent in any wallet.
For current and future cat owners, knowing the costs for common medical conditions can help them be prepared for when the unexpected occurs.
“Pet owners are encouraged to schedule regular medical checkups as recommended by their veterinarians to prevent many common, yet problematic medical conditions,” said Carol McConnell, vice president and chief veterinary officer for Nationwide, in a statement. “Early detection can prevent many of these issues from becoming severe.”
That's why Nationwide, the first and largest provider of pet health insurance in the U.S., analyzed its database of more than 650,000 insured pets to determine the top medical condition that prompted veterinary visits in 2017.
