On March 1, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) held its annual Media Roundtable — a day for representatives from some of its key partner companies and the media to discuss IICF's charitable successes in 2017 and initiatives for 2018.
Representatives from 15 companies highlighted their philanthropic acts from last year and what they hope to accomplish in the remaining months of 2018. Across the board, companies focused on empowering their communities, their customers and their employees.
“We're trying to be the philanthropic voice of the [insurance] industry,” said IICF CEO Bill Ross.
Despite reaching 25 years of helping communities, IICF knows there is still much work to be done. One major event set for this year is the Women in Insurance Conference Series. In June, attendees in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York will explore how diversity and inclusion intersect with innovation. Since its inception in 2013, more than 4,300 individuals have attended the event.

Annabelle Cabrera, facultative casualty underwriter for Munich Reinsurance America Inc. (Munich Re), spoke with PC360 after the roundtable to discuss Munich Re's Epic Day of Giving campaign and its partnership with IICF.
From 30 employee submissions, Munich Re's Charitable Giving Committee narrowed the list down to five finalists. The Foster and Adoptive Family Services of New Jersey received a one-time donation of $50,000, while the four finalists — LaTonya and the Youth of Engelwood, The Bridge Academy, Rise: A Community Service Partnership, and Arm and Arm — were awarded one-time donations of $10,000 each.
“What better way to celebrate our 100 year anniversary than to do this, to give back?” asked Cabrera, rhetorically.
Fresh from her first IICF media roundtable, Cabrera was blown away.
“It was so inspiring and amazing to hear all the good work that our partners in the industry do,” says Cabrera. “I know my story, but to hear everybody else's story, it was amazing. It was an amazing and powerful experience for me as an underwriter, as an associate board member of the IICF, as just one person.”
