After Hurricanes Harvey and Irma ravaged sections of Texas and Florida, it was only natural that questions arose about whether climate change was responsible, and if so, what more could be done to keep such massive disasters from occurring, and prevent the terrible death and destruction they cause.

Many "civilians" (those outside the industry) may assume insurers aren't taking a leading role when it comes to raising climate change awareness, keeping catastrophic events from happening and limiting the damage when they do. But that's simply not the case. Take, for example, the assumptions made by a handful of protestors rallying for sustainable energy development as they popped in to make their case during the opening breakfast at the recent Global Insurance Forum in London. The young environmentalists likely had no idea they might be preaching to the choir.
