There isn't much that we wouldn't do for our cats and dogs.

Like any member of a family, they're there for you through thick and thin.

Likewise, as an owner, you're always looking out for their well-being. But it can be hard to assess how they are when you don't speak the same language.

It's easy to know when they're hungry or want to go outside, but what about when they're feeling discomfort or pain? Sometimes, the clues aren't as obvious. As a pet owner, the not knowing can result in your cat or dog suffering from common illnesses; sometimes, they can be very serious.

Pet insurance is a viable option which owners should consider to avoid costly out-of-pocket fees which can accumulate from treatments and visits to the vet.

If you don't think your pet and wallet are at risk, take it from PetFirst Insurance. They compiled a list of the most common and expensive pet illnesses for cats and dogs based on claims submitted by PetFirst pet insurance policyholders in 2016.
