The Spencer Educational Foundation, an independent affiliate of RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc., awarded 64 undergraduate and graduate scholarships totaling $360,000.
|Future industry leaders
The students, selected and screened from a pool of 200 applicants, represent 21 schools and hail from 17 states and three countries. These awards bring the number of scholarships awarded by the foundation to 970.
In addition to 28 general undergraduate scholarships, the Foundation awarded 28 named undergraduate scholarships. All those scholarships are for $5,000. The named scholarships have been sponsored by: Allied World Assurance Corp., Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Chubb, FM Global, Liberty Mutual, Lockton Companies, RIMS Atlanta Chapter, RIMS Chicago Chapter, RIMS Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter, RIMS New Jersey Chapter, RIMS New York Chapter, RIMS, St. John’s University and Zurich.
“This class of Spencer Scholars has demonstrated academic, leadership and communication abilities that will serve them and our industry well,” said Spencer Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee Chair and COO, Lockton Benefits Companies Tim Meacham. “With these scholarships, we continue to accomplish the Foundation’s goal of not only funding the education of future industry leaders but also building a global talent pipeline for the industry.”
|Graduate-level scholarships
This year, the Foundation awarded four master’s level scholarships and four pre-dissertation scholarships. These are $10,000 scholarships. Lauren O’Meara, who attends the Columbia Business School, received the Anita Benedetti Memorial Scholarship, given to the female master’s degree scholar with highest grade point average.
The Foundation’s scholarships are merit-based and take into consideration academics, leadership, industry interest and experience. Each application was reviewed by every committee member. The Foundation also awards risk managers pursuing part-time master’s degrees up to $10,000 scholarships
