The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) board of directors appointed three new members for 2017:

  • Al Redmer Jr. – Maryland insurance commissioner

  • Elizabeth Kelleher Dwyer – Rhode Island superintendent of insurance

  • Larry D. Deiter – South Dakota insurance director

"Their combined experience and commitment to the U.S. regulatory insurance system will be a great benefit to the NIPR board of directors," says Roger A. Sevigny, NIPR board president and New Hampshire insurance commissioner of the appointments.

Bill Wilson, CPCU, ARM, AIM, AAM has launched InsuranceCommentary.com, a free educational web site that features a blog on P&C insurance industry issues. According to Wilson, the web site is a "source of relevant, timely and accurate insurance information, from coverage interpretations to expert opinions on industry issues."

Centerville, Ohio-based P&C insurance provider Norman-Spencer Agency, Inc. said Northern Star Management, Inc., acquired in 2014, will now operate as the transportation division of Norman-Spencer. Northern Star's specialty haulers, auto transporters, towing, and collateral recovery programs will now be part of the new transportation department.

University Park, Illinois-based Applied Systems announced The Cincinnati Insurance Companies will utilize its insurance quoting application Applied Rater to automate personal auto and home quoting for agencies nationwide.

The IHC Group repurchased 243,000 shares of its common stock for $20 per share, for a total of $4,860,000. IHC has been repurchasing stock in open-market purchases under its repurchase program.

New York City-based risk management nonprofit Spencer Educational Foundation announced 40 companies will have the opportunity to hire a summer risk management intern thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Foundation. Sponsors of this year's program are Allied World, RIMS Atlanta Chapter, the RIMS Northeast Florida Chapter and the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS).

USI Insurance Services, a Valhalla, New York-based insurance brokerage and consulting company, has acquired Accelerated Benefits, the largest insurance agency in central Ohio. Accelerated Benefits and its employees will remain its current Dublin, Ohio location. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
