Boston-based property and casualty insurer Liberty Mutual Insurance said it has promoted David Dwortz to president of its third-party claims administration unit, Helmsman Management Services.

He succeeds Debbie Michel, who was appointed executive vice president of Liberty's national insurance casualty unit in October of 2015.

Dwortz joined Liberty Mutual in 2000, working in senior leadership roles in finance, underwriting, distribution and claims. Since 2012, Dwortz has worked as senior vice president of distribution strategy.

Prior to his time at Liberty Mutual, Dwortz worked at Ernst & Young for 10 years. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

“Dwortz’s experience will support even more focused investment and growth for Helmsman,” says Mike Fallon, president of national insurance.
