Chicago-based insurance brokerage Hub International Ltd. said it acquired San Francisco-based Sweet & Baker Insurance Brokers. Terms were not disclosed.
Hub also said it acquired the assets of Portland, North Dakota-based insurance and real estate agency Mayport Insurance & Realty. Terms were not disclosed.
Chicago-based reinsurance brokerage Aon Benfield said its catastrophe model development unit Impact Forecasting has partnered with Mississauga, Ontario-based Unica Insurance to offer new a flood insurance called “WATERtight,” which was created in response to severe flooding in Canada in 2013.
Cayman Islands-based insurer United Insurance Co. said it was acquired by a group of private investors in New York City led by the Quasha family. Terms were not disclosed.
Hartford, Connecticut insurance and inspection company Hartford Steam Boiler said it has acquired Houston-based technology startup Meshify. The startup, which connects devices through the Internet of Things, will be part of HSB's IoT services business.
Hartford, Connecticut-based Munich Re/HSB Ventures said it has provided an undisclosed amount of additional funding for New York City-based insurance technology startup Slice Labs Inc. to create an on-demand insurance platform.
San Juan, Puerto Rico-based Advantage Insurance said it opened a subsidiary called Advantage Business Insurance Co.
Cary, North Carolina-based insurance software company Sapiens said its has begun offering its Sapien PORTAL, a direct-to-consumer sales platform.
The New York City-based International Association of Claim Professionals said it has elected new officers at its annual conference in September:
- President: Edward R. Quinn Jr., CEO of Rockville Centre, New York-based Rockville Risk Management Associates.
- Vice president: Frederic Gindraux, senior claims manager and senior vice president of claims and liabilities for Zurich-based Swiss Re America Holding Corp.
- Treasurer: Thomas E. Joyce, senior vice president and chief claim officer of Scottsdale, Arizona-based Nautilus.
- Secretary: Alex M. Sardinia, executive claims officer of Richmond, Virginia-based Markel North America.
Peter Fennell, managing director for Chicago-based Aon Benfield Inc., remains immediate past president. The new officers will serve a one-year term.
The association also announced that Scott Kellers, head of syndicate claims and deputy head of Liberty Specialty Markets Group Claims at London-based Liberty Specialty Markets, and Greg Myers, head of claims quality review at Hamilton, Bermuda-based Aspen Insurance, have joined the board of directors, serving until 2019.
