Carrollton, Texas-based software company Insurance Technologies Corp. said it has created the "InsurTech Scholarship," an annual scholarship aimed at supporting the future of the insurance industry.

The company said it will award one $1,000 scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year to a current college student who plans to work in the insurance industry upon graduation. Applicants are required to submit a 1,500-word essay about the effect of technology on the insurance industry over the next five years.

"The next great idea in the insurance industry will come from the upcoming generation, and how they look at and use technology," said Laird Rixford, president of ITC. "We're committed to this industry and its continued success. So we're excited to support the education of the people who will be passed the leadership torch and bring us into the future."
