Switzerland-based Zurich Insurance Group said it will donate $744,250 to 126 nonprofit organizations throughout the United States.

Zurich’s North American grant program recipients were announced on Monday to kick off its fifth annual Global Community Week, a weeklong celebration of Zurich’s commitment to making a sustainable difference in local communities.

The company said 46 of its offices around the world are participating this year.

“Our grants program in North America helps nonprofits make tangible changes in the communities where we live and work,” said Mike Foley, North America commercial CEO and regional chairman of North America for Zurich Insurance. “Global Community Week is our way to acknowledge and celebrate the time and resources our employees contribute to their local communities.”

The company added that it reviews grants annually for nonsectarian 501(c)(3) charities that have a mission that aligns with Zurich’s three focus areas for community investment: health and welfare of children in need; community resilience; and health. The charities must also meet the following criteria:

  • |
    • Employee involvement in the nonprofit.
    • Alignment with Zurich’s mission.
    • Proximity to Zurich offices.
    • Low administrative cost ratio.
    • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Zurich said in 2015, nearly one-third or approximately 18,000 of its employees around the world volunteered more than 31,000 hours in activities during its Global Community Week, adding that more than 3,100 of that number were skills based. Additionally, 2,100 of its North American employees logged 7,100 hours of volunteering time.
