After kicking off the festivities with Sunday evening's party in the Gaslamp Quarter, the first full day of RIMS began with a networking breakfast and general session in the San Diego Convention Center. The general session opened with a bang as Rhythm Extreme & Light Force showed their drumming and dancing skills. They even tried to get the audience up and moving by having sections of the room stand up and shout out “R-I-M-S.”

Mary Roth, executive director of RIMS, and Julie Pemberton, president of the society welcomed attendees to the conference and discussed new additions to this year's conference.

New this year, the opening keynotes featured three TED-style presentations. Motivational speaker, entrepreneur and magician Vinh Giang (below) used his magic skills demonstrate how easily you can become misled, then “pulled back the curtain” to show that misdirection in life and business can be overcome.

Scott Klososky (below), international speaker and author, spoke about the exciting potential of 3D technology and provided examples of the ways that the technology has already changed supply chain risk. He also discussed trends in 3D printing and what might be on the horizon that risk managers should be aware of.

Of special interest to claims professionals, Pamela Meyer, author of “Liespotting: Proven Techniques to Detect Deception,” used video examples to give the audience hints on body language and “tells” they could use to determine when someone isn’t being completely truthful, especially those lies that can be subtle and counterintuitive. After the opening keynotes and general session, the exhibit hall opened and attendees flooded the show floor. Here's some of the highlights.

Did you get your free headshot taken at the National Underwriter booth? Attendees lined up to get their photo taken so they could update their company profiles and LinkedIn pages.

Ventiv Technology attracted attendees with the opportunity to have their picture taken on a Vespa scooter.

Attendees who stopped by Liberty Mutual's booth were able to play ping pong with members of the U.S. Olympic team.

Like last year's conference in New Orleans, Belfor had sand sculptors working on a unique sand sculpture at their booth.

Don't forget to stay hydrated! Once again, Old Republic had its water bar available for attendees to stop by and grab some custom fruit-infused water to drink while they wandered the show floor.

This year's RIMS has a Game Lounge on the show floor where attendees can play some of their favorite old school arcade games.

Aon had a 3D printer at its booth printing plastic replicas of its building.

Did you stop and get a massage in one of these state-of-the-art ADAKO massage chairs?

A massage therapist was also available at DKI Commercial Solution's booth to help attendees unwind.

Attendees also unwinded with some risky games at Rosenberg & Parker's booth.
