New York City-based insurance broker Marsh LLC announced today that it has named John Q. Doyle president.

He begins his new job on April 15, and is to lead the company's global brokerage business. Doyle will report to Peter Zaffino, Marsh's CEO, and will be based in New York City.

“I look forward to working closely with John to deliver superior value to our clients and to further distinguish Marsh as the industry leader,” Zaffino said in a statement. “In today's evolving and dynamic marketplace, John's appointment is evidence of our continued commitment to having the most talented people and broadest capabilities to position Marsh's business for the future.”

Doyle, who is 52, will also join Marsh's executive committee, as well as the executive committee of New York City-based professional services company Marsh & McLennan Cos., which is Marsh's parent.

He most recently was chief executive officer for New York City-based American International Group Inc.'s commercial insurance business. He left the insurance giant in December, along with AIG Chief Financial Officer David Herzog, as part of a series of management changes there.

Doyle is a member of the board of the New York Police and Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund and is a trustee of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund in New York City.
