Tuesday's events at the Workers' Compensation Institute's 70th Annual Educational Conference (WCEC) kicked off with a special panel part of the conference's National Trends tract. Led by NU-PC360's Shawn Moynihan, attendees of the “Winning Strategies for Workers' Compensation Risk Management” panel learned the secrets behind the risk management programs that earned National Underwriter's Excellence in Workers' Compensation Risk Management awards this year.

The day was highlighted by a number of educational sessions and breakouts for Workers' Compensation professionals. When they weren't absorbing information in a session, attendees walked the showroom floor, which had a nostalgic 1980s theme.

National Underwriter Editor-in-Chief Shawn Moynihan moderates the “Winning Strategies for Workers' Compensation Risk Management” panel featuring the winners of NU's Excellence in Workers' Comp Risk Management award.

Kathy Hawkinson, corporate director of safety at Cedar Fair Entertainment; Jeff O'Connor, Workers' Compensation claims manager for Broward County, Fla.; and Patti Colwell, workers' compensation program manager for Southwest Airlines, took part in the engaging panel, sharing the secrets of their success and answering questions from the group of risk managers that attended the session.

After the panel, the award winners joined Mark Walls, vice president of communications and strategic analysis with Safety National, and Kimberly George, senior healthcare advisor with Sedgwick, for a segment taped for WCI TV. In case you forgot how awesome the 1980s were, WCEC 2015 reminded you. The 80s-themed conference was enjoyed by many, especially the exhibitors and attendees who walked the exhibit hall floor.

Walk this way! Run-D.M.C. was an 80s favorite on the exhibit hall floor.

The women of the Florida Spine Specialists booth went “Back to the Future” with this “Desperately Seeking Susan” look.

The team at Select Medical's booth dressed up and encouraged attendees to get physical.

FRANKIE — and Healthe — SAY RELAX.

Fun fact: Donkey Kong is Shawn's favorite arcade game. Shout out to ProCare for having the game at its booth for him to enjoy playing again.

This attendee was particularly excited to have the opportunity to play Ms. Pacman at Optimal Performance & Physical Therapies' booth.

This attendee was killing it at Orthopaedic Center of South Florida's booth.

The force is strong with Senior Nannies Homecare Services.

“Ghostbusters” was another popular theme at WCEC 2015. Here are a pair of “fraud busters” at SIU Central's booth.
