The Florida Division of Insurance Fraud announced this week that it arrested Julia Shurdom for collecting insurance premiums from clients and pocketing them for personal use, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Shurdom was allegedly working for Absolute Insurance Services with a suspended license when the fraud was committed. It was discovered that Shurdom had been under investigation by another state agency, which had suspended her license and found other fraudulent transactions, says the Orlando Sentinel.

An investigation into Shurdom's alleged fraudulent activities was launched after a client who purchased a homeowners' insurance policy from Shurdom in 2013 and 2014 discovered that her home was not insured after all. The investigation showed that Shurdom used the money collected from the client for personal profit, says the Orlando Sentinel.

Shurdom was booked into the Orange County Correctional Facility on July 20 on charges including scheme to defraud, uttering a forged instrument and violation of a suspension order. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
