Two auto manufacturers are issuing recalls that affect a total of 300,000 vehicles.
Kia Soul gas pedals
Kia Motors America is recalling their 2014-2015 Soul and Soul electric cars because a section of the gas pedal may bend and fracture if unanticipated excessive force is applied to the pedal. This could affect the car's ability to accelerate and increase the risk of a crash. The recall involves 208,858 cars and Kia will be notifying owners about the recall on March 24, 2015. Dealers will be able to add a rubber support under the pedal that should address the problem for owners.
Honda airbags
Takata airbag issues continue to plague manufacturers. Honda is recalling several more models because deployment of the front driver side air bag could generate excessive pressure and cause the inflator to rupture, releasing metal fragments that could potentially harm the vehicle's passengers.
The models affect by the recall are the:
- 2001 Accord
- 2004 Civic
- 2008 Pilot
Honda says that 104,871 vehicles are affected: 10,868 Civics; 5,454 Accords; and 88,549 Pilots. Owners will be contacted by Honda so they can take their vehicles to the dealer to have the airbag inflator replaced free of charge.
The Takata airbags have affected cars from 10 different auto manufacturers, requiring them to issue recalls for 17 million vehicles.
Owners who want to verify if their vehicle has been involved in a recall can go to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration website and search by make and model.
