USAA Chief Operating Officer Stuart Parker will become the company's next CEO when Joe Robles retires from the position at the end of February 2015.

“Stuart is the right choice to lead USAA forward at a time when the financial services industry is undergoing tremendous changes,” USAA Chairman Gen. Lester Lyles, USAF (Ret.), says in a statement. “The board has found a successor who demonstrates clear devotion to USAA's mission to serve the military and their families, deep appreciation and respect for our employees who represent the finest workforce in America, keen business and financial acumen, and unquestionable ethics.

“The board's decision was unanimous because Stuart meets all of those criteria and more.”

Robles announced his retirement in February, stating, “It has been my privilege to work at USAA for nearly 20 years. However, in early 2015, it will be time for me to pass leadership of this great association to the next CEO.”

Upon today's announcement that Parker will become the next CEO, Robles said,“Having worked with Stuart for many years, I know he's ideally suited to lead USAA forward. Stuart was instrumental in building USAA's financial advice capabilities, growing our flagship P&C line of business, and then managing our financial, strategic and operational planning. He's also a veteran and a military spouse. He knows what it means to serve.”

Parker says of his appointment, “After serving USAA's membership in numerous capacities for the past 16 years, I'm deeply honored and humbled to be selected to lead this great organization.”

Parker has been COO since 2012 to 2014. From 2007 to 2012, he led USAA's Property and Casualty Insurance Group in multiple locations throughout the U.S. and Europe.

A graduate from the Air Force ROTC program, Parker flew the C-141 Starlifter in combat missions during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was also an instructor pilot flying T-38 aircraft.

Carl Liebert will replace Parker as COO. He joined USAA in 2013. Liebert has held senior leadership roles at The Home Depot, Circuit City and General Electric, and was CEO of 24 Hour Fitness from 2006 to 2013.

He is a former U.S. Navy officer, and served on USAA's board of directors from 2011 to 2013.
