If your identity hasn't been stolen yet, chances are it will be in the near future.
That's the troubling reality of the digital world we live in.
According to a recent report from Javelin Strategy & Research, one American falls victim to identity fraud every two seconds on average, and the overall number of identity crime vicitims is up from 500,000 in 2012 to more than 13 million in 2013. Toss in the recent data breaches at Target, Neiman Marcus and others and the odds of an identity crime hitting your personal bank account jump exponentially.
That's no joke.
The good news is, as the opportunities for identity theft have increased in recent years, so have the tools at our disposal to protect ourselves. And you're starting to see these protections seeping into much of the financial services industry as well. Identity protection features are now almost standard issue at banks and, yes, insurance companies, designed as much for client retention as for data security at the institutional level. After all, when you're taking steps to protect each and every client on your rolls, protecting the entire business as a whole becomes that much easier.
