Markel Corp. appointed Thomas K. “Smitty” Smith to the newly created position, chief marketing officer. In this new role, Smith is responsible for business development, branding, managing strategic relationship, creating digital assets and corporate advertising and marketing activities.
Jeffrey Smith joined Lockton as senior vice president, healthcare leader. Smith is based in Lockton's Atlanta, Ga. Office.
J. M. Wilson promoted Erin Dey to director of sales and agency relations. In her new role, Ms. Dey will develop a sales training program for underwriters to enhance their skills and help underwrites understand the importance of sales to the underwriting process.

Los Angeles-based Brown & Riding announced the opening of a new office in Dallas, Texas. The move is part of a planned expansion in the Southwest region
Crawford & Co. plans to expand its presence in the Middle East with the opening of a new office in Qatar. The new office will augment services already provided to clients from Crawford & Co.'s establishments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and will house a team of adjusters and marine surveyors providing support to clients for risk exposures including offshore energy, consulting, construction and marine.
Brightway Insurance expanded to Cranberry Township, opening its first location in Pennsylvania.
