(Bloomberg) — General Motors Co.’s plan to compensate accident victims will be administered by Ken Feinberg, a lawyer previously hired by the carmaker to advise how the program should be run, Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra said.

Feinberg, who ran similar programs for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the 2010 BP Plc oil spill, will handle injury claims arising from accidents related to defective ignition switches before and after the carmaker’s 2009 bankruptcy, Barra said. Feinberg said in a statement today the program would start accepting claims by Aug. 1.
