You will probably notice some changes beginning with this issue of Claims. In early May, I joined the Claims and PropertyCasualty360 editorial team as the editor of Claims, a publication I have long esteemed going back to when my colleague, Phil Schreiner, was the editor.
For those of you who don't know me, my background includes experience in the cleaning and restoration, towing and recovery, legal, real estate, construction, quick lube and non-profit industries. More recently, I've been working on a number of insurance-related projects, including the Property Industry Conference, and speaking at events like the Combined Claims Conference and the International Disaster Conference and Expo on how insurers and restoration contractors can work together more effectively.
One thing I would request is that you drop me a line and let me know what you want to see in the magazine — what stories and information you need, what we're not covering that we should; and what you think would make the magazine even stronger. You can reach me a [email protected].
This month David Governo and Sarah O'Leary offer an in-depth look at nanotechnology and the potential safety risks involving some applications, particularly related to their use in food products. They look at whether or not manufacturers have a duty to warn their customers about the use of nanotechnology applications in their products.
Jennifer Kennedy-Coggins examines the issues related to policy limits and the challenges insurers face while trying to avoid bad faith claims. How a claim is handled when there are multiple insureds often depends on the state in which the claim occurs. You'll find her article an interesting read.
According to some recent polls, a higher unemployment rate is having an impact on car sales and the number of people driving. Susanna Gotsch provides some statistics involving millennials (anyone born between 1985-1999) and their views on driving, who is purchasing today's new cars, and how these trends impact insurance sales.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the America's Claims Event in Washington, D.C., June 25-27, at the Gaylord National Resort. If you haven't had a chance to register yet, there's still time to go to www.americasclaimevent.com. Hope to see you there!
