While they may have built a dynasty around duck hunting, the Robertson family also knows a thing or two about deep-frying a Thanksgiving turkey.
State Farm has teamed up with Si and Jase Robertson, members of the Duck Commander family and stars of the hit A&E program Duck Dynasty, to offer safety tips for properly frying a turkey in a new video titled “Hang On A Minute with Jase and Si Robertson.”
“So you want to deep-fry a turkey,” says Jase, getting out of his pickup truck. “Excellent choice.”
Jase continues to make his way to the house, fire extinguisher in hand, as he lists the different precautions one should take when frying the bird. We see that Si could have benefitted from his nephew's advice.
The Robertsons are no stranger to turkey frying, says Heather Paul, State Farm public affairs speciallist. The family has been featured frying a turkey, among other things, on their TV show.
“I saw the episode and said, 'Oh my god! Getting them would be excellent!,'” says Paul. “We reached out and they immediately said yes and were so incredibly generous with their time.”
Based on data from State Farm, more cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. The good news is that State Farm cooking fire claims on Thanksgiving Day have been reduced from 66 claims in 2010 to 29 claims in 2012, the lowest number of claims in a decade.
November is the number one month for grease and cooking related fire and December is the second highest month.
“This campaign has really resonated with consumers and has produced a great result,” Paul says. “It's an entertaining way of getting this message out without making light of it.”
