A new survey shows one in five American drivers would hand the wheel over to a computer if self-driving, or autonomous, cars were available.

The survey of 2,000 drivers by CarInsurance.com also shows interest in such models spiked with the prospect of greatly reduced insurance rates.

Self-driving technology already is on the market today, with cars that park themselves, navigate stop-and-go traffic and avert collisions.
