American International Group has landed XL Group's CEO of North American P&C Insurance operations to be its president and CEO of its Europe, Middles East and Africa region.
Seraina Maag will begin her new role in London on Nov. 11, according to AIG. She will oversee the insurance business in 47 countries that make up AIG's EMEA unit and report to Peter D. Hancock, CEO of AIG Property Casualty.
“With [Maag's] strong insurance background, proven leadership skills and global perspective, I am confident she will be an invaluable asset to our business,” says Hancock, in a statement. “We have made great strides over the past several years and Seraina's appointment marks a wonderful addition to our team as we continue to concentrate on refocusing our business, improving our risk selection, and delivering outstanding service to our brokers and customers around the world.”
Maag succeeds Nicholas Walsh, who has been filling the position on an interim basis since April. He will resume his role as vice chairman of AIG Property Casualty.
Before joining XL Group in September 2010, she was president of Zurich North America Commercial's Specialties unit from June 2007 to August 2010. She was promoted to the position from CFO of the unit and was head of investor relations and ratings agencies for Zurich before that.
