Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has named Ann Flood director of the state Department of Insurance and Financial Services.
Flood (pictured) fills the post vacated by Kevin Clinton, who has been appointed by Snyder as the state's treasurer.
The duo will start their new roles on Nov. 1.
Flood, an attorney, was Clinton's chief deputy director and was responsible for the department's Office of General Counsel, Office of Insurance Evaluation, Office of Insurance Rates and Forms, the Budget Office, Information Technology Services and Human Resources.
Snyder, in a statement, says Flood is “a natural successor to [Clinton] to lead our team at DIFS.”
Clinton served as director of DIFS since it was created a year ago. Prior to that, he was commissioner of the state's Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation for two years.
Trade association the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America thanked Clinton for his leadership while looking forward to working with Flood on the “critical issues facing consumers and the [P&C] industry in Michigan including no-fault auto reform, combating fraud and managing the many issues under review by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
“It is also vital that Michigan join the rest of the nation in passing confirming requirements of the federal Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act to establish a level playing field for surplus lines products,” continues Jeffrey Junkas, PCI regional manager, in a statement.
Last month PCI was appointed to Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson's auto insurance anti-fraud task force.
