The sixth in our series of Shop Talk Community podcasts features Wayne Umland, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Glatfelter Insurance Group, speaking with George Grieve, author of the Shop Talk column for Tech Decisions magazine.

Umland and Grieve discuss the insurance software market and the challenges insurers face, especially related to the rise of Software as a Service and cloud options, vendor and software selection and core systems modernization projects.

Umland joined Glatfelter Insurance Group in 1997 and as a member of the senior management team he is responsible for all aspects of information technology as they support the company's key business initiatives and strategies. Prior to joining Glatfelter, Umland worked for Colonial Penn Insurance Group where he served on both the business and the technology side, handling customer relationships, market research, state insurance department relationships, strategic planning and technology related to the development and enhancement of systems and processes. In a previous role at Aetna Life Casualty, Umland worked in the group pension area and facilitated the transfer of Canadian pension business from the US to a Canadian affiliate.

He holds a MBA from the University of Hartford and also attended the Wharton School's Effective Executive Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is involved in several organizations, civic groups and research councils and was a former industry advisor to the committee of the Postmaster General.
