Although headquartered in New York, Transatlantic Reinsurance Company (TransRe) lives up to its name, writing business on both sides of the Atlanticand the Pacific as well. Being domiciled in the U.S. gives the company significant advantages that offshore reinsurers cant offer, according to President and CEO Michael Sapnar.

Although headquartered in New York, Transatlantic Reinsurance Company (TransRe) lives up to its name, writing business on both sides of the Atlantic—and the Pacific as well. Being domiciled in the U.S. gives the company significant advantages that offshore reinsurers can’t offer, according to President and CEO Michael Sapnar.

“Not everybody wants to work on an island in the middle of the Atlantic,” says Sapnar. “If you live in the U.S. and you want to be in reinsurance, you can work at our headquarters and be right in the middle of where the action is. You’re not just a U.S. division of some global company where you’re essentially a rounding error on the quarterly numbers.”

Paul McKeon, TransRe’s chief underwriting officer for North America, adds that being headquartered in the U.S. also pays dividends in terms of customer service and business growth.
