Aspen Insurance estimates its pretax losses for the second quarter may hit $59 million, with Central European flood losses in June contributing to 52 percent of the total.
Aspen said that its losses from the flood may account for about $31 million, with overall industry losses from the event falling between $4 billion and $4.5 billion. Other losses in Aspen's total estimate include flooding in Canada and India and U.S. tornadoes and hailstorms.
The estimate is split by 85 percent and 15 percent between its reinsurance and insurance segments, respectively.
