Tropical Storm Chantal, the third named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, has emerged off the coast of South America with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

The National Weather Service forecasts Chantal, moving in a West-Northwesterly direction, to reach the Dominican Republic and Haiti sometime between Wednesday and Thursday. NWS says the storm should pass over Cuba and reach the Eastern coast of Florida as a tropical depression by Saturday morning.

The first two named storms of the season, Andrea and Barry, were tropical storms.

Andrea, the first named storm of 2013, landed in Charleston, S.C., on June 6 and spawned nine tornadoes in Florida as it moved along the East Coast, downing power lines and causing residential roof damage. Barry made landfall south of Veracruz, Mexico, on June 20 bringing heavy rains and flooding to the region killing three people.
