State Farm, which targets businesses of one to 19 employees, has seen an uptick in inquiries from quick-service food purveyors, such as ice cream parlors, delicatessens and coffee shops, according to Sandy Mullins, underwriting consultant for State Farm.
As these businesses look to set themselves apart, they have started to offer delivery services—which results in a need for Non-Owned Automobile Coverage if employees are using their own vehicles.
Mark Toohey, a spokersperson for Farmers, says the insurer continues to see increased interest from the office and service sectors—software consultants, dry cleaners, and beauty and nail salons fall into this category.
Mullins agrees, adding pet grooming and children's enrichment centers as other growth classes.
Home-based businesses were hot for a time, says Mullins, but this segment has died down.
Toohey says EPLI coverage has been gaining in interest among smaller retail clients.
“EPLI claims, even if they have no merit, take time and professional help to resolve,” he notes.
