The Northeast is preparing for another big storm as a disturbance tracking across the Great Lakes is expected to merge with another low pressure system developing off the Mid-Atlantic Coast this evening. The winter storm is expected to pass to the south of Cape Cod and then intensify rapidly, dumping heavy snow across southern New England and parts of New York.
Forecasters' warnings that the storm could be one for the record books is being taken seriously as residents scurry to stock up on food, water, and gas, and road crews are on standby with salt and sand.
