Philadelphia Insurance Companies and four Tokio Marine Group companies are donating a total of $195,000 to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy via the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

The donation includes $25,000 apiece from the companies and their chairman and CEO Jamie Maguire, who serves on the board of directors of the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. The money will provide food, shelter, counseling and other help to those affected by the superstorm.

In a press release, Maguire linked the destruction caused by the hurricane to the environmental devastation he witnessed during a relief mission to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake in the region, saying the storm brought images of the overseas disaster “closer to home”.

PHLY's parent company, Tokio Marine Holdings, is donating $50,000 to the cause. Additionally, New York-based Tokio Marine Management, Inc. is giving $25,000 and matching employee donations. Delaware-Based Delphi Financial Group will contribute $50,000, and the island-based First Insurance Company of Hawaii is giving $10,000 as well as matching up to $5,000 in employee donations. .

The PHLY-affiliated Maguire Foundation will also be giving $10,000 towards relief efforts, rounding out the total donation.
