More money or a better boss? Michelle McQuaid, a proponent of positive psychology interventions in the workplace, asked 1,000 American executives that question. Sixty-five percent said a better boss would make them happy, while only 35 percent said a bigger check would have the same result.
The survey also showed that only 35 percent of Americans are happy at their jobs. Leaders who want to improve their workplace environments should take cues from "good" bosses:
|- Larry Page of Google allows employees to pick the projects they work on during 20 percent of the time
- Howard Schultz of Starbucks spends more on training than advertising
- Herb Kelleher of Southwest Airlines introduced servant leadership by placing his employees at the top of the priority list and himself at the bottom.
McQuaid launched the site tellyourboss.com, where employees can share ideas and empower employers to improve.
