Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. has named J. Michael Bischoff as its new chief financial officer effective immediately.

In a statement late yesterday, the New York-based professional services firm and parent company of insurance broker Marsh and reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, says Bischoff, 64, has served as the interim CFO since March of this year.

Prior to serving as CFO, Bischoff was responsible for leading and directing the company's corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, treasury and investor relations functions. Since joining the firm in 1982, he has held a number of senior financial management positions.

”We are pleased to announce that, after a thorough search, we have chosen Mike to serve as the company's chief financial officer on a continuing basis,” says Marsh & McLennan's President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Duperreault. “His extensive experience and demonstrated ability to create shareholder value are important assets as we drive toward our long-term growth objectives.”

Bischoff will report directly to Duperreault.

Bischoff replaces Vanessa A. Wittman who resigned in March to accept a senior role at Google.
