According to multiple accounts, Arkady Suleymanov has two adult sons and a thick Slavic accent. However, the male who called Allstate to report his 2007 Maserati stolen spoke perfect English and sounded quite “young,” according to John Penza, a special agent with the FBI.
The initial phone call to the auto insurance carrier is one of many details of the case that are simply not adding up. For instance, Suleymanov told police he had last driven the car to visit his sister on Nov. 14, 2011. The Staten Island resident claimed to have parked the Maserati outside of her building in Queens, only to later discover that it was missing.
All of this would seem plausible to a disinterested party, had firefighters not found the burning vehicle in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Nov. 9, 2011. This glaring inconsistency led authorities to charge Suleymanov with insurance fraud. Following his arrest, Suleymanov was released on a $200,000 bond. The case remains open, with pending court proceedings.
