BB&T Insurance Services says it has added flood insurance to its suite of online-insurance offerings, making it the first insurance broker to the country to offer and sell flood insurance online in real time.
The Raleigh, N.C.-broker, a subsidiary of BB&T Corp. bank, says it writes and services flood-insurance coverage directly through The Hartford.
The Hartford is a participant in the Write Your Own program, which is part of the National Flood Insurance Program.
An attempt to get a quote for flood insurance shows that the purchase only applies to applicants that have never had a flood-insurance claim. Anyone who has had a claim is directed to contact BB&T Insurance Services directly. It also appears that additional underwriting is needed for individuals in a flood zone.
BB&T says online flood insurance is available in the 48 continental states, and individuals do not have to be current BB&T clients to buy a policy.
“Fortunately, it's easy and inexpensive to protect your home and belongings from floodwater damage by purchasing flood insurance online,” says Randy Screen, chief insurance marketing officer for BB&T. “You can get a quote, make a purchase and be covered in approximately 30 days.”
