More than 4,000 insurance industry volunteers provided 15,000 hours of service to nonprofits across the country as a part of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation's (IICF) Volunteer Week.

IICF volunteers supported hundreds of community nonprofits that have a variety of focus areas from education and youth programs to the environment. More than 500 projects were offered.

“Insurance is a people-centered business,” says Tom Glock, vice president, Commercial Risk Services, ACE, USA. “The IICF provides the industry with a unified effort to enrich our communities.”

Since its inception, Volunteer Week has provided more than 155,000 hours of service to community organizations.

Expanding its geographical reach in 2011, Volunteer Week mobilized insurance professionals to make an even greater impact through collaboration. Volunteer projects took place in all three IICF operating divisions spanning Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, and Utah.

“Swiss Re is proud to support the IICF and Volunteer Week,” says Eileen Lim, head of communications for the Americas Division of Swiss Re. “Our New York staff cleared out trails in Van Cortlandt Park; our Overland Park colleagues helped clear tornado devastation in Joplin, Mo.; employees from our Chicago office prepared lunches for families who have a child suffering from a serious illness at Chicago-land Ronald McDonald houses.

“We salute IICF's efforts bringing together the collective resources of the insurance industry to help our communities and enrich lives.”

Volunteer Week is IICF's largest national program. IICF has contributed more than $17 million to community nonprofits.
