Deborah D'Anna helped the poor and then, she helped herself.
The former operator of Palmer Park Medical Center, a clinic for poor people, was sentenced to 50 months in jail in an Ingham County court. She must also repay the $3 million that she raked in during her Medicaid scam that ran from 2007 to 2009.
D'Anna was accused of billing Medicaid with the identities of the clinic's former doctors and patients long after Palmer Park closed in 2005. Authorities say she spent millions on a lavish lifestyle in Ocala, Fla. With her ill-gotten earnings, D'Anna purchased cars, land, jewelry, and a luxurious Florida home.
