During its recent 67th annual meeting and seminar in Las Vegas, Nev. from Oct. 22 to 25, the CPCU Society announced new board members. The following elections are effective immediately:

CPCU Society President and Chairman: Steve McElhiney, CPCU, MBA, ARe, AIAF, is president of EWI Risk Services, Inc., a reinsurance intermediary based in Dallas and a subsidiary of NL Industries. He is also president of Tall Pines Insurance Company of Vermont.

CPCU Society President-Elect: David Medvidofsky, CPCU, CIC, ARM, AIAF, AAI, is vice president and head of the audit unit of The Main Street America Group, a Jacksonville-based super regional insurer in Florida. He will serve as the Society's 2012-2013 president and chairman.

CPCU Society Vice President: Cynthia A. Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed., AIC, is a faculty member in the Risk Management and Insurance Program at the University of Colorado-Denver School of Business, currently developing RMI's curriculum and marketing its classes.

CPCU Society Secretary: Nancy D. Adams, CPCU, J.D., is a partner practicing in the litigation section of Mintz Levin, in its Boston office. She is the first incumbent of the newly separated secretary's office, which formerly was merged with the treasurer's position.

Continuing his service on the Board is CPCU Society Treasurer Brian P. Savko, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, a team manager in State Farm's Murfreesboro, Tenn. Office, who fills this newly independent position. He served as the Society's 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 Secretary-Treasurer. He has been a member of the Society's Budget and Finance Committee since 1999, and has served as president, vice president and secretary of its Mid-Tennessee Chapter.

Also continuing his services on the board is Warren L. Farrar, CPCU, CLU, ChFC, the Society's immediate past president. Farrar, who served as the Society's 2010-2011 president and chairman, is assistant vice president–claims for State Farm. He has served on the Society's board as an interest group governor and on its Audit Committee, Executive Committee and Governance Overview Board Working Group. He joined the Society's Loss Control Interest Group Committee in 1992 and served as its chairman from 1996 to1998.

The following were elected as directors and will serve three-year terms:

James L. Hanson, CPCU, is assistant vice president of member experience-Financial Foundations at USAA's Phoenix, Ariz. campus.

Robert A. Mansfield, CPCU, is senior vice president of HUB International New England in Lexington, Mass. He has been in the insurance industry since 1977 and has been with HUB for more than 30 years.

Donna M. Wright, CPCU, MBA, AU, is assistant vice president of product management for Germania Insurance Group in Brenham, Texas. She has been with Germania since 2006. Wright is a past president of the CPCU Society Houston Chapter and a past member of the Society's Nominating Sub-Committee.

Also, Mary R. Hennessy, FCAS, is serving a one year term from 2011 to 2012 as Society At-Large Director by appointment of Society President and Chairman McElhiney.

The CPCU Society is a community of credentialed insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. Its more than 25,,000 members hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, which requires passing eight rigorous undergraduate- and graduate- level examinations, meeting experience requirements, and agreeing to be bound by a strict code of professional ethics. The CPCU designation is conferred by The Institutes.
