This is now my 10th issue since taking over the reins of NU, and I hope you've noticed some subtle changes—greater use of charts and graphs, a weekly page dedicated to data, and a column every issue from our Washington-based reporter.

An even bigger shift you'll notice going forward is significantly enhanced coverage of issues of keen interest to risk managers—those ultimately responsible for so many of the buying decisions in the world of commercial insurance.

It's only appropriate that I make this announcement in the issue which we'll be distributing at the world's most important gathering of risk managers—the annual conference of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, being held May 1-5 in Vancouver.

To help guide our reporting on and analysis of risk management, NU has formed a Risk Managers Advisory Board, comprised of 10 of the leading experts in the field. Our board members, who collectively have hundreds of years of professional experience, lead the risk-management operations at organizations across a diverse spectrum of industries.  They come from Fortune 500 companies, a major university—and a city, because stories about the special challenges facing public-sector risk managers today will be an important part of our coverage.

The members of the board will help NU editors identify the best-in-class solutions to the problems and issues all risk managers encounter, and we'll bring you their insights in a range of ways, from the pages of this magazine, to online blogs, to virtual and face-to-face education, to appearances in video.

In fact, you'll see comments already from three of our board members in an enlightening story starting on page 14 that examines the special qualities of the insurance companies that won our annual “Risk Manager Choice Awards” feature.

To meet all 10 of our board members and learn a little bit about their distinguished careers, turn to page 41.
