15 Questions to Ask Claimants About Social Media Usage

SIU investigators, attorneys, and data analysts can gain enormous insight into a claim by questioning insureds about their social networking use.

The prevalence of social networking, micro-blogs, and media-sharing websites offer a virtually untapped resource for cultivating investigative leads and evidence during claims investigations. SIU investigators, attorneys, and data analysts can glean much insight from a claimant or an insured sharing information about themselves, family, friends or associates on these forums. Locating this data can be a daunting and time-consuming task. However, knowing the right questions will help facilitate a quicker information procurement process while reducing costs.

The ensuing series of questions is intended to serve as a starting point. Although not comprehensive, this list will prove to be a valuable tool for investigators when gathering the necessary information for an in-depth search of social media profiles. They are designed not only to gather personal information for use in research, but also as a reminder of where potential digital evidence may be found, which in the past has been overlooked.
