TransCare Corp., a medical transportation company serving the mid-Atlantic, has seen dramatic improvements in workers’ compensation claims closures since implementing an intake/triage program in July 2010. A startling 93 percent of its medical-only claims occurring in that month closed within 30 days, compared to only five percent closing in July 2009. 

“We operate in a fast-paced environment, and our employees receive immediate treatment after an injury,” said Steve Miller, TransCare’s risk manager. “But in the past, we were frustrated by the long lag time before the first doctor’s appointment. This slowed down the whole process; claimants weren’t getting in to see doctors as fast as they should and it took a long time to release them to work.”
