The National Association of Insurance Commissioners' (NAIC) just released 2008 Homeowners Insurance Report provides national and state-specific data on market distribution and average cost by policy form and amount of insurance.

NAIC says the report includes premium and exposure information for non-commercial dwelling fire insurance and for homeowners' insurance package policies, along with narrative on how specific economic, demographic and natural phenomena impact the price of homeowners' insurance.

The Florida data, however, excludes policies written by Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the state's largest property insurer with some 1.2 million policies. This exclusion and the fact that "reported Florida market data do not distinguish between policies including wind versus policies excluding wind" prompted the authors to note that the Florida information "should be viewed with a degree of caution" when comparing it to other states.

The NAIC report is available for purchase (publication code: HMR-ZU-10). A preview of the data is available from the NAIC press office.
