The "Carlos Factor"

In insurance, we plan for and anticipate certain risks, but life and circumstances dictate what really happens. Often our best bet in avoiding pitfalls is thoroughly analyzing insureds' potential risks to ensure appropriate coverage.

July 15th was an interesting day. It was the day I met Carlos, a 100-pound American bulldog. When purchasing Carlos, I anticipated the need for training pads, food, water, a safe place for her–yes, Carlos is a she; I loved the movie “The Hangover”–to spend her days. I braced myself with a fair amount of patience. An accident here; a bump there, but hey, risk is my business. I was ready, or so I thought.

What I didn’t anticipate was Carlos eating my entire DVD collection, destroying my laundry room twice, and eating an entire week’s supply of Keurig K Cups. That was just the first month.

Carlos ate her food . . . and pretty much everything else in the house. Then, she dug up my in-ground sprinklers. Seeing Carlos pulling at a 20-foot section of sprinkler pipe was quite a surprise, but such is life.
