A magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the coast of Mexico in the Gulf of California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at 10:53 Pacific Daylight Time, and the epicenter was located 85 miles northeast of La Paz, Baja California.
