Each year, the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP) disseminates a wealth of vital updates about emerging litigation trends and investigative techniques (among other topics) through various channels to not only ensure the effectiveness of subrogation but to also propel the professional development of its constituency.

One pathway to accelerated learning is the annual NASP conference, which takes place Nov. 7-10, 2010. The sprawling Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas will provide the backdrop for this year's gathering of subrogation and recovery professionals. Organizers anticipate that more than 1,000 professionals will be in attendance and that they will learn first-hand how the NASP conference typifies the "everything's bigger in Texas" mentality.

That's because of the amplified learning opportunities made possible by a host of experts and vendors who will offer commentary about subrogation issues related to property, auto, workers' compensation, health-care, and insurance claim management.

In addition to the informative sessions, networking and recreational activities, NASP will once again hold the extremely well-received Subro College. This intensive course offering is intended to help those who are relatively new to the field familiarize themselves with basic principles of subrogation. These "students" explore the relationship between subrogation and insurance, as well as society in general. Also comprising the curriculum will be courses covering liability, negligence, and investigation -- and how they apply to different types of claims.

The expected strong attendee presence reflects the high regard subrogation professionals have for the event and its overall educational agenda. Not to be overlooked, however, is the fact that the NASP conference fosters solidarity amongst those in the profession through various (formal and informal) networking activities. For instance, attendees have their first chance to forge meaningful connections with others at the tenth annual NASP Golf Classic, which kicks things off on Sunday, Nov. 7. Participants in the 18-hole tournament will get to play at the world's first NFL-themed course, which award-winning architect Jeff Brauer designed to pay homage to the Dallas Cowboys.

Once NASP attendees familiarize themselves with the Gaylord's grounds, they will have a chance to keep the conversation going at a Texas Hold 'Em tournament and several receptions. It is also important to note the resort's close proximity to Dallas. The city's infamous book repository is located just a few miles away, and as we edge toward the 47th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, it is a tremendous privilege to hear from Dr. Cyril Wecht, the first independent forensics expert to examine JFK's autopsy records and conclude that there was more than one assassin.

Since the assassination and subsequent investigation by the House committee on which he served, Dr. Wecht has embarked on an illustrious career as a forensic pathologist, gaining worldwide recognition for assisting with probes into the deaths of Robert F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey, and countless other high-profile cases. So, don't miss Monday morning's keynote presentation by the man on whom both plaintiffs' and defense attorneys have relied for many years to unravel civil and criminal cases throughout the U.S. and abroad.
