I’m very sorry to hear that Eric Dinallo, New York’s former insurance superintendent, failed to gain much traction in his primary race to be the Democratic candidate for attorney general in the state, drawing only 8 percent of the vote yesterday. Mr. Dinallo is a class act, and I doubt we’ve heard the last of him on the New York political scene. In case you are interested, the winner in the primary was State Senator Eric Schneiderman, followed closely by Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice. Mr. Dinallo actually finished behind two other candidates as well.

While flooding the airwaves with TV ads in the final days of the campaign, Mr. Dinallo was unable to overcome a name recognition handicap in a race that drew few voters to the polls. He was simply too invisible early on in the campaign, and not even a couple of major endorsements could overcome his lack of presence with the general public.

He was also a protege of sorts of his former boss (twice), Eliot Spitzer, whose own brand reputation challenges might have discouraged some voters who do not know Mr. Dinallo’s outstanding track record from voting for anyone associated with the disgraced former governor.
