This month, thousands of workers' compensation claim professionals and attorneys from all over the nation will come together to mark the 65th iteration of the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference (WCEC), which is hosted by the Florida Workers' Compensation Institute (FWCI) and held at the Orlando Marriott World Center.

The conference seeks to bring workers' comp professionals together for networking, information sharing, and vendor exhibiting solutions. FWCI's educational offerings highlight case law updates, current insurance regulations, as well as emerging national trends. In addition to claim professionals and attorneys, the courses target payors, providers, employers, and other interested parties.

Beginning as a regional conference for Florida workers' comp professionals, WCEC has embarked on a mission in recent years to expand its presence within the national workers' compensation landscape. It's reflected in this year's program, which includes topics that address national trends, changes at the state and national levels, and case law revisions.

However, all aspects of workers' compensation and workplace safety and health will be included in the hundreds of sessions being offered over the course of three days, including breakouts for:

  • Risk Managers
  • Regulators
  • Safety Professionals
  • Health-care providers
  • Adjusters
  • Attorneys
  • Paralegals and Legal Assistants
  • Medical Case Managers
  • Rehabilitation Providers
  • Professional Employer Organizations (employee leasing)
  • Mediators

In addition to subjects of general interest within the national workers' compensation and safety communities, state specific workers' compensation laws will be the subject of day-long breakouts and will include presentations featuring regulators and other experts on the laws of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana.

As if that wasn't enough, a live surgery will be performed for the benefit of conference attendees, who will see two surgeries: a carpal tunnel release and an arthroscopic meniscus operation. A cutting edge program on evidence based medicine will be presented. A breakout will also be held on the Medicare Secondary Payer Act, the newest problematic aspect of dealing with workers' compensation and general liability cases.

All in all, it's a jam-packed three days of education. If you are still not sure, though, take a look at the full conference program by clicking here. You can register by clicking here.
