Liberty Mutual Group has restructured its commercial insurance distribution and service to agents and brokers who serve national and mid-sized business clients in response to the difficulty producers have had doing business with the company.

The Boston-based insurer said it reorganized the operation so producers have a single point of entry for accessing commercial property and casualty and specialty lines insurance. The reorganization extends to claims and loss control services for national accounts and mid-sized business clients, the company said.

In a statement, J. Paul Condrin, president of Liberty Mutual's Commercial Markets strategic business unit said the move "reflects our commitment to helping agent and broker distribution partners grow and retain their books of business of national and mid-sized clients.

Liberty said the new distribution and service management group will operate through six new geographic divisions and a major accounts division.

In an interview with NU Online News Service, Mr. Condrin said that after the company sold-off its direct sale of mid-market renewal business in 2009, it has been difficult for agents and brokers to do business with the insurer. Sind that time the company has worked to make life easier and provide a single point of contact on the distribution side of the company.

In the past, producers had to deal with multiple people on accounts. Now there will be a single territory manager representing all products the company offers.

"There will be one name, one face, one contact," he said. "But if there is a working relationship the agent is comfortable with we will not force them to change."

He said the move has been met with "overwhelming support for change," from the producers it discussed the reorganization with yesterday after the announcement.

The changes, he said, do not alter the company's business or its technology.

"We are pretty excited to strengthen and deepen the relationship," said Mr. Condrin, adding that producers see this as "an opportunity to grow their business."

Under the reorganization Mark A. Butler was named president of the new distribution and service management group.

The following are the executive vice presidents leading the major accounts and geographic divisions:

o Douglas M. Nelson, general manager, major accounts.

o Susan M. Doyle, division general manager, Southwest

o David R. Dwortz, division general manager, Northeast.

o David E. Eaglen, division general manager, Mid-Atlantic.

o Deborah L. Michel, division general manager, Midwest.

o George D. Townsend, division general manager, Southeast.

o Peter L. Wise, division general manager, West.

o Mark J. Moitoso, general manager, distribution management.
